Eat with Hunger, Not the Clock

One of the fundamental food habits I teach in my coaching is Eat with Hunger, Not the Clock. We spend SO much time micromanaging our hunger... we eat because it's "breakfast" or "lunch" time, we eat every 2 hours because Jimmy Bob said it would speed up our metabolism (terribly wrong, btw), we don't eat when we are hungry because we are "fasting", we eat because six-pack Tommy said you needed a pre and post workout snack..... all these fussy food rules that undermine your innate ability to just eat.... eat with no rules.

Why not just eat when we are hungry? What happened to just tapping into our eloquent, perfectly designed hunger and fullness cues... the way nature intended?

Here's what that would look like. You wake up, maybe you feel hungry right away, maybe its not for a couple hours. That's okay! But when you do feel that pang of hunger, I want you to make a meal, sit down, and eat it. Eat it until you are satiated, then stop.

Coffee is not a meal, 2 hardboiled eggs is not a meal, a granola bar or protein bar is most definitely not a meal. Make a meal that is intended for a full sized adult, like you. Even

better, for that first meal of the day, make it mostly protein. Then, when you get hungry, you are going to do the exact same thing, make a meal, and eat it until you are satiated.

Wash, rinse, repeat until you go to bed, wake up, and do it again.

You'll probably need to practice at this, years of dieting and manipulating our hunger tends to make it a little difficult to listen to our bodies.

Try it out and let me know how it goes! If you can't eat with hunger, reach out on social media or email and let's trouble shoot!
